30 Things in 30 Years: Buy Good Belts and Shoes

Nothing takes the place of well-made shoes. I’d rather have two pairs of good shoes than 10 pairs of not-so-good shoes. Good shoes are timeless and transition with you. They fit well and have character. Of course, we all have fun shoes, trendy shoes, and “what was I thinking?” shoes, but the most compliments go to stylish, classic footwear. Good shoes are an investment.

The same is to be said of good belts. A well-made, top quality belt will be your best friend for many, many seasons. A man will always need a black belt, a dark brown belt, and medium brown belt (think chocolate or russet); so make them count. I have probably about 2 dozen belts in various colors, material, and patterns, but I wear black and brown at least twice a week.

I’ve found this to be true for bags too. As a commuter, I leave super early and usually return super late. Needless to say, I’m usually carrying food, water, books, electronics, and so many other necessary elements of life (flask?), so shouldn’t your stylish, well-made life be carried in a stylish, well-made bag?

In these 30 years, I’ve learned that, for a man, style equals character. Let them speak for each other.
